Japantown San Jose's foundation began in the late 1800's when Japanese immigration made it's way to the farmlands of Santa Clara Valley.
Japantown Business Association , now administrator of the Japantown Business Improvement District formed in 1987 as the third BID in the City of San Jose, was first formed as the Jackson-Taylor Business and Professional Men's Association. They banked with Sumitomo Bank, now the site of California Bank & Trust on 1st Street.
