What you'll find is a select menu which attracts discriminating diners for dinner. It's family style dining with a stylish attitude. Children are welcome, but adults be aware that the cuisine and friendly conversation, wine and sake choices are selected for their compatibility with the menu. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and everything is made to order. Curry is always on the menu at lunch along with Black Cod Miso. 'The Iceberg" a refreshing wedge of cold lettuce with shaved daikon and shiso on a sea of ponzu is a favorite. The San Jose fresh handmade tofu in sauces have won over even the most discerning critics. Grilled Tri-Tip over Yasu vegetables with Brown Butter Daikon relish is ordered often although some make special trips for the Crispy Creamy Kani-Maki or the cubes of Duck Breast, spicy Garlic Egglpand and a sweet Ginger Miso. Divided into Greens, On Land and from the Sea, with a
daily fresh fish Chef's choice, the menu
changes so you will always find something new to your liking. Seasonality, great combinations of tastes and visual appeal are Chef
Yasukawa's forte. Mini-Bio of Chef Brett Yasukawa Brett grew up in and around San Jose's Japantown. He's also worked at Sushi-Ran in Sausalito, California, Tokie's Japanese Cuisine in Foster City, Higashi-West Euro-Asian Cuisine in Palo Alto. CA. In Japantown San Jose, he's working on his own menu in what he calls 'yonsei-cuisine'. Some call it fusion. Others call it gourmet. At YASU's it's always tastefully balanced and thoughtfully presented.
